Type Locality and Naming

It was named by Zhang Xilin in 1938. The type section is located at Wentoushan, Liantan, about 50 km southeast of the Yunan County, Guangdong Province.

Synonym: (文头山组)


Lithology and Thickness

The formation is 58 m thick, dominated by grayish black and black carbonaceous muddy shale intercalated with thin-bedded gray or brownish red siltstone and silty shale.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

It conformably overlying on the Liantan Fm

Upper contact

The upper boundary remains unclear.

Regional extent

It is mainly exposed in Liantan and Lubu of Gaoyao County in western Guangdong Province. The formation, 2448 m in thickness [?], consists of thick-bedded fine-grained quartzose sandstone, and rhythmitic deposits of thin-bedded shale and sandy shale at Gaolu in the east area.

Fossils

It yields graptolite Spirograptus turriculatus, S. sinicus, Streptograptus exiquus, Oktavites spiralis, O. spiralis contortus, Pseudoplegmatograptus obesus, Stomatograptus grandis, etc.
